So according to these pointers, you can decide how much tea or coffee you need per day. If you are having a craving for a beverage, drink water- it’s the best.

Apart from substitution, you can do other stuff for meal planning for weight loss. When you pack your kids’ lunch, make sure you include fruits in it. Pack an apple or a banana. It would be a healthy snack for them. Also, do not plan just three meals in a day. Try to include two snack breaks in between. These snack breaks could include some raw vegetables, fruits and nuts. Count how many seconds the image stays in your mind before fading away to darkness. Take note of this number. Do the same thing for the other eye and compare the results.

Now relax the eyes and try again. One way to relax the eyes is to close them and concentrate only on pleasant thoughts and good memories. Allow your eyes to focus on the darkness and forget everything around you. Open your eyes and try the exercise again. Hopefully the results are different and the image stayed longer the second time around. If not, you may need to find some eye relaxing exercises and work on removing the strain.

1) Sunscreens don’t stay good forever! The formula deteriorates over time, and expires in around a year. Using outdated sunscreen won’t protect from harmful UV rays.

2) Basic application of sunscreen seems easy, but many people get it wrong. It takes about 1 once of lotion (enough to fill a shot glass) to cover your whole body (or about 15 to 20 seconds of spraying with spray lotions). Plus, don’t forget to reapply after swimming and every two hours.

3) If you do get a sunburn, treat by applying cooling aloe gel or moisturizer with Vitamin E. And don’t forget to drink lots of water to rehydrate the skin!

4) It’s important to remember that the beach isn’t the only place to be conscious of the sun- we can get even more sun damage just from walking around outside during our daily activities. Since remembering to apply sunscreen each day can be a chore, try using a make-up (liquid or powder foundation, even some bronzers) infused with SPF 15 or 20.

5) Our hair can also get damaged by UV rays, causing color to fade and ends to dry out. Try protecting your strands with a hair “sunscreen”- usually a spray- or just wear a hat for extra protection.

6) Lips can also dry out and get burned during sun exposure. Although it may be tempting, resist the urge to put gloss on– it may actually magnify the sun’s rays and thus raise your risk for damage and skin cancer. Instead, try a lip balm with SPF 20 or 30 before heading outside.

7) Beware of going out into the sun for prolonged periods when using certain prescription medications–several can make skin more sensitive to the sun’s rays. Check the bottle of your medicine or ask your physician.

8) Make sure you check any moles or other irregularities on your skin. See a dermatologist if a mole changes or develops asymmetrical borders and coloration.

I know these questions may sound a little far fetched, but in fact, many mainstream commercial beauty products available on store shelves today are toxic skin care products which contain chemicals which maybe harmful to your health.

Most people aren’t even aware of this, but these chemicals can cause all sorts of harmful side effects, from hair loss, to rashes and other allergic reactions, to mouth or skin sores or other conditions, and in the long term some may even be linked to cancer!

For example, Pthalates (often listed in skin care products as dibutylphthalate, DEP, DBP, or butyl esters) are used in cosmetic and skin care products from mascara to nail polish, to face cream, and they help these product spread thinly, and absorb into the skin.

You know what else phthalates do? They cause birth defects! That’s right – studies have shown that these toxic skin care ingredients cause birth defects in rats, and also in humans. Several cosmetics companies have recently discontinued the use of phthalates, but many others have not.

Another scary ingredient to avoid is: Sodium Lauryl or Laureth Sulfate (SLS). This one is basically a detergent, which causes things like shampoo, soap, and yes, toothpaste to foam up and get sudsy. SLS is one of the leading causes of cosmetic, skin, and hair care product complaints such as dandruff and hair loss, dry skin, mouth sores, and it can even cause long-term damage to your eyes!

And this one is especially frightening: Remember formaldehyde – that really smelly stuff that was used to preserve the frogs for dissection in your biology class? Formaldehyde has now been identified by the EPA as a likely human carcinogen (you probably could have guessed by how bad it smelled, right?)

Well, how would you like that stuff on your face? Guess what: while you may not actually see the word “formaldehyde” on your skin care product label, you may see one of these ingredients instead:

  • quaternium-15
  • imidazolidinyl urea
  • 3-diol diazolidinyl urea (also known as 3-dioldiazolidinyl urea)
  • bronopol (sometimes listed as 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1)
  • DMDM hydantoin

All of these toxic skin care ingredients break down during use and release formaldehyde, which is especially a problem if they appear in a product you use in the shower or on your hair, as heat can speed up the conversion to formaldehyde. And the list goes on….

But what can we do? That stuff is everywhere, right? So how do we avoid these toxic skin care ingredients, and find more natural products that are less harmful to our health?

While you might not be able to memorize every single toxic skin care ingredient out there, you can certainly make a list of the most dangerous culprits (maybe write out the list and keep it in your purse or wallet), and then you can check the ingredients of your skin or hair care products against the list, and if they don’t measure up, just don’t buy them.

Here is a short list of toxic skin care ingredients you should never use:

  • Phthalates
  • Mineral Oil and other petroleum products
  • Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate<
  • Selenium Sulfide
  • Parabens (keep in mind these may be listed with a longer name such as methylparaben)
  • Formaldehyde (and the contributing ingredients listed above)

You should also avoid… alcohol, fragrance, mineral oil and other petroleum products, dioxane, toulene and triclosan.
